Mobile waste recycling service expands to more towns
BBCA mobile household waste recycling centre service is set to expand to three more towns.
Cheshire East Council said residents will now be able to access the facility in Congleton, Macclesfield and Wilmslow when it starts on 5 September.
The authority brought in mobile HWRCs after three permanent tips closed in 2024. Two of those affected, Middlewich and Poynton, have since regained a mobile service.
Councillor David Jefferay, cabinet member for environment, sustainability and waste management, said: "The service will make it easier for residents, particularly in rural communities, to access facilities while complementing our existing household waste recycling centre network."
The council said the changes to the mobile services followed a review of recycling facilities in the borough. There are further plans to expand to Audlem.
The borough was left with sites in Alsager, Crewe, Knutsford and Macclesfield, following the closure of Congleton's tip in 2021 and those in the three other towns in 2024, among them was Bollington.
The town was not included in the new mobile service under the changes.
Ruth Burgess, town clerk of Bollington Town Council, said the decision was "particularly disappointing" and that the authority would be seeking a "clear explanation" from Cheshire East Council.
"There is clearly a question that needs answering as to why Bollington, having already lost its permanent HWRC and subsequently its interim mobile provision, has not been included in the new mobile service," she said.
Burgess confirmed the town council would be discussing the issue at a meeting next week.
