Lidl submits plans to develop new Devon store

Supermarket chain Lidl has submitted plans to develop a store in Devon's newest town.

Lidl has put in proposals on the edge of Cranbrook, within the consented Tresbeare expansion area that is set to see just over 1,000 homes built on what is now agricultural land.

Lidl's plans for London Road, Cranbrook, would also include four other retail and commercial units, which documents suggest could be used for the likes of shops or coffee shops.

Plans included 118 parking spaces including six rapid electric vehicle charging spaces.

A new road layout has been proposed as part of the plans, with a new double mini-roundabout to be installed to help ease traffic flow on London Road and Younghayes Road, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Additionally a new estate road would run along the western and southern boundaries of the site.

The supermarket had already been surveying opinions for the prospect of its store coming to Cranbrook, which has apparently seen 92% of respondents supporting the idea and 93% supporting the proposed other uses on site.

Plans include solar panels on the building's roof and an area of amenity space including outdoor seating outside the commercial units.

Lidl said it would ordinarily expect up to three HGV deliveries to the store each day and these would also take waste back to regional distribution centre to reduce the amount of traffic to its store.

It expects to open 07:00-22:00 Monday to Saturday and 10:00-16:00 on Sunday.
