Emergency services were called to the eastbound Central line platform at 10:51 BST on 30 August. A 32-year-old man was taken to hospital in a critical condition, where he later died on 1 September.
Before the man's death, Jeremiah Maximo, 38, of Drydock Square, Barking, was charged with grievous bodily harm. BTP said it would now apply to amend the charge, which will take place at a later date at court.
Maximo has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court later.
