Africa: From Reparations to Action

African leaders examine the legacy of the transatlantic slave trade, how governments and the African Union can advance reparative justice whilst strengthening Africa-Caribbean cooperation.

African Heads of State have gathered at the annual Elevate Africa Presidential Roundtable in Accra, Ghana, to examine how the push for reparations for the transatlantic slave trade can move from recognition and resolutions to meaningful action.

In a special Focus on Africa roundtable discussion hosted by Waihiga Mwaura, leaders explore the role of African governments, the African Union, Caribbean partners, and the wider international community in advancing reparative justice.

The conversation also looks ahead, asking how Africa can engage its young people in shaping the reparations agenda, strengthen ties with the diaspora, encourage investment and return migration, and create opportunities that support the continent's future development.
Bringing together questions of historical accountability and future prosperity, the discussion challenges leaders to move beyond declarations and chart a practical path towards reparative justice and sustainable development.
